From 1943: She's Pure As New York Snow

I am not a huge fan of Miss Davis,
but I am a huge fan of Gig Young.

  1. Didn't Gig Young die tragically? Was it in a fire or something?

  2. Murder-suicide in 1978. Gig was a hopeless drunk his entire life and, on a bender in '78, impulsively married his third wife, a woman he actually despised. Three weeks after they were married, Gig shot her to death and then turned the gun on himself.

He is one of my favorite actors, but it is said that the role that won him his Oscar, that of the drunken, foulmouthed, lecherous lout announcer in THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY?, was merely Gig Young playing Gig Young.

Creepy tidbit: Gig's second wife, Elaine (who remained his best friend until his death), leased 10050 Cielo Drive to Sharon and Roman.

  3. I have recently grown fond of Ms. Davis.
Like one of your favorites, Shelly Winters, Davis also played some very unsympathetic roles.
I think she was brilliant in 'The Little Foxes". Loved Gig Young in "Lover's and Other Strangers".
