The Housewife's Guide To Mmm! Mmm! Good! (Now With Bonus Reactionary Stereotypes!)

Double-click to learn all about The Wonderful World Of Campbell's Soup. For instance, did you know that "men like beef and vegetables"? Or that "a prize steer" was used to make every can of beef soup? Or that the only way to adequately illustrate Pepper Pot was to borrow Aunt Jemima's sister?

There is something about that cow's head that cracks me up. I don't know why. He was likely contemplating his rather unhappy fate. Or perhaps not. Perhaps he was just merely thinking about some tasty cud.

  1. This may be a silly question, but why is there a picture of a Puritan Pilgrim next to the bean and bacon Soup - the "old fashioned bean soup to satisfy the Canadian taste"? I'm confused. :)

  2. Those first three soups are so manly, full of "deep, rich, thick" ingredients.

Oh, and what in the hell is a "pepper pot woman". I grew up in Philadelphia, and am familiar with pepper pot soup; the women, not so much.

  3. Oh Pax, you know that YOU are the consummate Pepper Pot Woman. In fact, I am going to get with Doug P. so that we can plan a pageant just for you with the same name. It's gonna be glitz, baby, so you best git yer spangles and yer spray tan and yer flipper! I wanna see EYELASHES, bitches!

Kristen...I caught that too. Now, admittedly, I slept through most of my history classes, but color me confused :-)
