From Sesame Street: The Ape Escape

When I was a little girl, I loved this vignette.  I would dance around the living room and my mother would admonish me, "Laura Beth, watch out for the candy dish!  Watch out for the stereo cabinet!"  Even then, I was a notorious klutz.

My favorite bit is the noise the ape makes when he lands on a bale...a bale of hay.

Some say that the vocal was Northern Calloway, aka "David."  NantoVision1, a YouTuber who I like a great deal and whose opinion I trust, says emphatically that it was not Calloway.  (I have wondered if it was Ben Vereen.  I had this epiphany one night while watching Vereen in 1979's All That Jazz.)

p.s. Please take the time to watch the clip from All That Jazz.  It's fabulous.  Roy Scheider, you were robbed of the Oscar...but you were up against Dustin Hoffman in Kramer vs. Kramer.  Yeah.  Kind of tough to beat.

Plaza Sesamo: Lucas Hice Un Sandwich

I've found that watching Plaza Sesamo (that is, Sesame Street in Spanish) is a great way for me to work on learning the language, which I have found really difficult.

And Cookie Monster is funny in any language.  Enjoy.

I love it when he calls the little girl "Muchachita."

Spectacular For Our 1975 Spectacular: A Hard-Workin' Dog

One of my favorite Sesame Street clips from when I was a child, this debuted in a 1975 episode.

There's an urban legend that the vocalist and guitarist here is Neil Young. That isn't true. It's a country singer and jazz musician named Fred Wardenburg. Sadly, Wardenburg died in 2006.

(although I am quite sure that Neil would have done this piece, had he been asked.)

From 1973: Kids Feelin' The Funk!

This clip really should be posted weekly. It's pretty much the single most awesome thing that has ever existed. It's also the only demonstration you need of why Seventies Kids Rule The World. You can have your Hannah Montanas and your whatshernames and whatevers. Seventies Kids had Stevie Wonder and his band, bringing pure funk into our living rooms on an ordinary weekday morning.

And seriously, this is the best version of "Superstition" I have ever heard, and since I have been Stevie's bitch pretty much my entire life, I know of what I speak.

Happy Friday, everybody. Have a good weekend. Now turn up your speakers and blow the roof off.

From 1971: Me Want Cookie!

Very clever to have him chomping on the TV Guide logo.

The Ernie And Bert You Never Saw

Yeah yeah yeah...we all know they were lovers. None of us, however, realized that they were gangstas.
Many thanks to the lunatic over at Monkeys For Helping for this gem of a find.
