From 1965: Carve Your Number On My Wall And Maybe You Will Get A Call From Me

Please, folks...I am not a snob as a general rule, but please, please listen to The Beatles in mono only.

The tunes were mixed for mono, so if you want to hear the songs the way that the lads themselves and Sir George Martin meant for the world to hear them, opt for the mono mixes.

p.s. This is another tune that was inspired by the greatest rock n' roll muse of all time, Pattie Boyd.

Not much else to be said about that.
This shot was by photographer Mark Getty.

From 1981: Dioressence

Created in 1969 by perfumer Guy Robert, this somewhat-rare perfume has top notes of violet and rosebud, a middle note of geranium, and bottom notes of cinnamon and patchouli. It was created during the "Oriental" fragrance boom.

I've smelled it; I like it. It's the kind of fragrance that might wear a woman, instead of the other way around. I already have one Big Fragrance like that that is one of my signatures: Fracas by Robert Piguet. I didn't feel the need to add another to my wardrobe.

Cover Girl Cybill Shepherd

In 1966, Cybill Shepherd won "Miss Teenage Memphis," launching for her what would prove to be a long and lucrative career, both as a model and an actress.

She was 1968's "Model of the Year," leading to work as one of the first "faces" of Cover Girl cosmetics.

Blogging After A Huge Meal: Impossible, Unless You Have Your Trusty Vogue Magazine Covers To Depend Upon

And gallons of Pepsi and tunes from The Byrds and Traffic. Oh, and Excedrin Migraine.

Excedrin is better...science says so!
Be sure to catch the throw away line about the "antidepressants" in Excedrin.

From 1969: The Mike Douglas Cookbook, Shamelessly Stolen From A Website That Might Just Be My Own Personal Crystal Meth

Sadly, the site does not seem to offer much in the way of recipes, which is actually probably a good thing, because if it did my head would likely explode from all of the vintage goodness. The covers are wonderful enough, and since I love to collect old and rare and vintage cookbooks, I can tell you that Old Cookbooks is about to have another enthusiastic customer.

Coming Down Fast, But I'm Miles Above You

Forty years ago today, on August 8, 1969, Charles Manson sent Charles "Tex" Montgomery, Susan Denise Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Linda Kasabian out to commit what would become known as the most gruesome and savage murders in the annals of American crime.

This is what they did.

(A word of warning: this video is extremely graphic and features crime scene and autopsy photos of the victims.)

Sharon Tate's baby boy, fathered by her husband Roman Polanski, was taken from her womb and buried in his mother's arms.
