Gelatin and Green Olives...Together At Last, United In Deliciousness!

Wonderful memories of my Grandma Mary, who most certainly would have made this Jell-O salad and served it proudly with dollops of mayonnaise...all the while with a Pall Mall burning between her fingertips manicured with Revlon's Fire and Ice and a highball awaiting her when she finished the chore.

From 1956: As I Lay Dieting

American Meat Institute, Family Circle, July 1956

A double clicker not to be forgotten, trust me.

I'm on a self-imposed diet that just so happens to coincide with the six weeks of full-on Catholic guilt otherwise known as Lent. I'm just not happy with my current weight and I know that I can do better, look better, be better. But gee golly, gee damn, those hot dogs are actually tempting to me. I have even looked longingly at one of the most hated of all Fifties Foodstuffs here at Touch Of Tuesday Weld, that green Jello botched abortion in the middle of the platter. Are those chopped onions suspended in green gelatin?

Goddammit, where's my sugarless gum and my Diet Coke?

As Evidenced By This Feature From 1978, The Good Folks At Family Circle Magazine Think That "Creole Flavor" Means "Sticking Green Peppers In It"

Did anyone else not know that canned food was so versatile?

Double-click for the recipe goodness, as usual.  Does anyone really need to be told how to make a chef's salad?  Or a reuben sandwich?  And drowning your chicken in canned soup...that's good eating, I guess, at least when Jimmy Carter's the prez.

Is it just me, or does that tuna pocket recipe read suspiciously like The Salad of '75?
