The TWA Jetstream was a common site in movies in the 1950s.  Two films that immediately come to mind are Funny Face and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?  In the latter, you see Jayne Mansfield languishing in one of 
the Jetstream's luxurious sleeper beds.

I always love Trans World's colorful, eye-catching advertising from this era.  Many of their travel advertisements could have doubled as art for the home, and often did.

Another Tale Of Two Covers

"Whiz Kid" Van Doren is lauded on the cover of Time in 1957 for having defeated champion Herb Stempel and subsequently going on to reign as champion himself on NBC's Twenty One. Van Doren won $129,000 as a contestant on the show. Not a bad amount of scratch by today's standards; imagine how much it was back in 1957!

From 1957: A Trailer From My Favorite Movie

Have a good weekend, everybody. And if you haven't seen A Face In The Crowd, do so as soon as you can (you can watch the whole movie, in segments, if you follow the link!). It's so good, I won't even try to describe it to you, because I lack the words to do so. Yes, it's that good.

The Oscars are this weekend. They're so irrelevant; Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau, and Anthony Franciosa (who gives, in my opinion, the most devastating portrayal in the film) were all snubbed by the so-called Academy for this movie.

A very young and adorable Lee Remick made her big-screen debut in this film.

Oddly prescient for today. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

And I guarantee that you will never look at The Andy Griffith Show the same way ever again.
