From 1957: A Trailer From My Favorite Movie

Have a good weekend, everybody. And if you haven't seen A Face In The Crowd, do so as soon as you can (you can watch the whole movie, in segments, if you follow the link!). It's so good, I won't even try to describe it to you, because I lack the words to do so. Yes, it's that good.

The Oscars are this weekend. They're so irrelevant; Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau, and Anthony Franciosa (who gives, in my opinion, the most devastating portrayal in the film) were all snubbed by the so-called Academy for this movie.

A very young and adorable Lee Remick made her big-screen debut in this film.

Oddly prescient for today. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

And I guarantee that you will never look at The Andy Griffith Show the same way ever again.

The Wonderful Miss Judy Holliday

Miss Holliday in her signature role of Billie Dawn in Born Yesterday, for which she won a Best Actress Oscar. (My note: simply one of the best and funniest movies ever made. And believe it or not, the remake with Melanie Griffith is pretty good, too.)

Judy Holliday died on June 7, 1965, after a battle with breast cancer. She was only 43 years old.

Angel Face

Did you know that Jean Simmons was director William Wyler's first choice for the part of Princess Anne in Roman Holiday? Audrey Hepburn was given the role because Howard Hughes, who owned Jean's contract, would not release her to do the picture.

From 1951: Marilyn Monroe's Former Roommate

Part of the reason why I love Shelley Winters was that she was unafraid to play unsympathetic, unlikable characters. Such was the case in 1951's A Place In The Sun (a fantastic movie and one of my favorites).

I am not a huge fan of Miss Davis,
but I am a huge fan of Gig Young.

From 1948: The One And Only

Saint Joan of Crawford, posing by some sort of urn that I am quite sure that Helga forgot to dust under. Not that I would ever fault Joan for being mad at the dirt...she's La Joan, after all. It's her right, no, her duty to get mad at whatever or whoever she wants.
