From 1987: Heaven Is A Kiss And A Smile
One of the most haunting records ever made.
On February 27, 1988, Father Figure topped the Billboard charts, staying there for two weeks. It was a track from George Michael's monster LP Faith, which was released in October 1987.
The model in the video is Tania Coleridge.
There isn't a bad track on Faith,
but this one has been my favorite for 25 years.

There will never be enough words said about her beauty. She really was one of the best models who ever lived, and she managed to attain that status in less than five years of working in the industry and despite having a, shall we say, dangerous way of living.

From 1980: Marathon Looks Just Put On...Until Cover Girl Discontinues It In 2011
Truly one of the greatest waterproof mascaras ever created, Cover Girl inexplicably discontinued the Marathon product, much to the dismay of millions of loyal users (including myself).
In fact, the first mascara I ever owned was a tube of Marathon, in 1982.
Here's an ad with the lovely Cindy Harrell with the memorable jingle (you'll know it as soon as you hear it, Seventies Kids).
I miss models. I am sick of celebrities being venerated to an even higher social status by having them sell me every little thing. I don't care what mascara Rihanna uses. Christie Brinkley, yes. Beyonce', no.

In 1966, Cybill Shepherd won "Miss Teenage Memphis," launching for her what would prove to be a long and lucrative career, both as a model and an actress.
She was 1968's "Model of the Year," leading to work as one of the first "faces" of Cover Girl cosmetics.

Pattie Boyd Shampoos Her Hair
She had quintessential Sixties hair, long and blonde and swingy. Pattie always shampooed her hair daily, which was unusual for the times. She then would allow it to air dry.

From 1982: She's Right On Time
I am not really a fan of Billy Joel, but when I like one of his songs, I can be really quite obnoxious about it. So it is for this song. It appears on 1982's The Nylon Curtain.
According the various Billy Joel sources on The Information Superhighway, the song was never really released as a single, despite the hilarious and elaborate video that was made for the tune.
Here's a bit of trivia for you: before Joel married Christie Brinkley in 1985, he had romantic entitlements with two other models: Elle MacPherson and Whitney Houston (who had quite a promising career as a model until she, you know, opened her mouth to sing and Holy Heaven came out.)

Fashion designers Foale and Tuffin, famous for churning out minidresses and other mod delights for the dolly rockers of the day, loved having Jenny Boyd model their creations. They worked with her more than any other model, and Jenny was unofficially "the face" of Foale and Tuffin clothing.

VogueFor a couple of years after this first appeared in the magazine, I had this page tacked up on my wall. I was, and continue to be, struck by how beautiful this image is. Christy Turlington has taken a lifetime of iconic, stunning photographs. For me, this is one of the most memorable.
