Love That Red

Behold, Janice Dickinson: THIS is the world's first supermodel.

I wonder if Revlon's iconic "Love That Red" shade was named for the lovely coppertop Suzy Parker?

In The Forties, A Girl's Wedding Day Was No Excuse To Eat In Some Hoity-Toity Restaurant

1948

No eating out for this thrifty Forties couple, even on their day of wedded bliss.

There's no reason the little lady of the house can't slap on an apron and whip up a casserole that has ham, fruit, and green jello...while still wearing her bridal veil!

Pyrex makes it easy for the female half of the equation to slave over a hot oven, even on this most sacred and happiest of days.

Remember, ladies: fail to cook dinner for your husbands...even on your wedding day...and the Communists win!

Gia Carangi For Cutex Nail Polish, 1980

I chose today's blast from the past in honor of yet another new blog template. I found the other one to be not so easy on the eyes, so I decided to "rethink pink!"  I can read this one much more easily.

Gia Carangi really was one of the greatest models who ever lived, although her time at the top was just under three years.  She lost her looks, her career, and ultimately her life to heroin.

Gia was one of the first American women to die of AIDS, in 1986.  The only fashion photographer who publicly mourned her was Francesco Scavullo.

R.I.P., Gia Marie.

In This 1920s Ad, A Young Mother Is Encouraged To Teach Young Junior To Treat Breasts As His Own Personal Speakeasy

However, Young Mothers all over this great God-fearing nation were surprised when Young Junior started to demand a bowl of peanuts along with his session on the breast.

One baby in Tulsa screamed until his Young Mother installed one of those "Love Tester" machines next to his crib.  The young tyke refused to sleep until he reached "Red Hot" status.

Yet another baby in Cincinnati told his Young Mother, "Hey, lady, this beer sucks!  Make with the Schlitz already!"  This is according to our reliable sources.
