From 1974: The Geezer Edition

I'm back.  These days, I'm not blogging as often as I was, but I'm still around.  Thanks to those of you who dropped me a line and asked where I was.  Would you believe me if I told that I was in jail?

You would?

Okay, then.

From August 8, 1974, and the broadcast of NBC Nightly News, and the coverage of "the ordeal of President Nixon."  Take five minutes for yourself, and take things back to Watergate.  The pants were plaid, the news viewers were old and crotchety and opinionated, and the country was going to hell in a handcart being driven by a bunch of rich white men.  Everything old is new again, I guess.  Except for maybe the plaid pants.

From 1970: Everything Old Is New Again

I have been trying to locate pictures of so-called "health food stores" from the Seventies, as they always seemed to be the punchline of some joke in the movies and sitcoms of the era. I would like to do an entire week of posts about "health food stores" and the products that were sold, but am finding it difficult to come up with material.

From 1979: Jagger and Gideon!

I was originally going to do a post about Sandy Linter's 1979 book Disco Beauty today; I'm still researching it. Despite the presence of Gia in its pages and the adoration of All Things Carangi on the Internet, I am having a hell of a time finding stuff to crib for a post here.

As I was searching just before, I was singing this song to myself, as I often do; I think that if this blog had a theme song, this would be it. It's Peter Allen's "Everything Old Is New Again."
And this clip has Ann Reinking with some of her most glorious Bob Fosse moves, from the 1979 classic All That Jazz.

As always, enjoy.

Dancin' at church, Long Island jazzy parties
Waiter bring us some more Baccardi
Let's order now what they ordered then
'Cause everything old is new again

Get out your white suit, your tap shoes and tails
Let's go backwards when forward fails
And movie stars you thought were alone then
Now are framed beside your bed

Don't throw the past away
You might need it some rainy day
Dreams can come true again
When everything old is new again
